Tour 02 DesCours PODCAST for "Photon Garden" by Hiroyuki Futai and EP3, part of DesCours 2009 Installation series sponsored by the New Orleans Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

Concept:
Photon Garden is contained within a standard size shipping container, creating an urban garden of 3.24 square meters. The garden is composed of sixteen hundred light emitting diodes (LED) which float above the four hundred translucent tubes planted on the ground. As people inhabit the container, the garden responds with the luminous patterns of various movements across the space. The inner walls are mirrors that reflect the photons infinitely, a simple optical effect that gives the closed space various scale images which represent the contrast in scale between our daily surroundings and the infinite universe. In addition, a projected movie screen gives a clear image of the view from the web camera set on the floor. The image becomes symbolic of the ability for confined habitation within the boundless LED forest.
