The English version of a song very famous in Italy, issued on 1966 by Equipe 84, the most famous Italian group of that period, written by Francesco Guccini.

I died when I was a child
I died with hundreds of people
from a furnace to chimney
And now I am cradled by the wind
At Auschwitz, snow on the ground
The smoke it drops so slowly
In the fields nearby Auschwitz
all the people will spread in the wind
Silently, so many people
Drifting, here in the wind
It's strange, so very strange
I never even learn how to smile
Oh no, I don't believe
That man will ever learn
To leave in peace
Without killing
In peace or even more
Oh, once again
the guns will thunder
man's not content
with what he's got
Like the beast
who taste the blood
he will go on
to destroy again
Once again the guns will thunder
man's not content
with what he's got
there will be millions more
drifting here in the wind
drifting here, here in the wind

  • Bought the 45 in the sixties. Have searched high and low for the English version again. Having visited Auschwitz three times, I am happy you have put this up. It gives the feel of that forsaken place.

  • Guccini, che uomo meraviglioso.

  • uncredibile!

non sapevo che esistesse una versione in inglese!

    grazie di averla postata!

    :)

  • Thanks to this song...I once had this on a 45RPM, and wanted to find it again...again...thanks!

  • I have been trying to find this song for years. I heard it once (probably on Radio Caroline) and have never forgotten it. Chilling but so poignant. Thank you.
