Displayed is high intensity competitions of Shotokan Karate Ippon Kumite, or one blow knock out capabilities. Through focus and strength of will, the Karate Club at UC Riverisde Instructor enters the ring with warrior spirit and over comes each opponent with the concept of zoning.
Zoning, is a scheme that takes advantage of your opponent's predictability. Zoning defines actions that simultaneously attack specific target zones on your opponent. Zoning simplifies Kumite (sparring) by emphasizing actions rather than techniques. These actions supplement elite coordination and timing of the common "one shot one kill" scheme (traditional Karate concept). Instead of pulling the trigger on a gun, zoning is like pulling the pin on a grenade.
