Healthier more robust plants, better drainage, improved uptake of nutrients, preserves beneficial living organisms, more organic matter, more humus, better water infiltration, holds more water, break down and recycle soil nutrients.
Video by Dr. Milton Ganyard at HerbFest to benefit the Graham Johnson Cultural Arts Endowment, http://www.gjcae.org.

  • Great vid . The ideas discussed are very much those of Eve Balfour who wrote a book called The Living Soil and who started THe Soil Association . Sadly i think a lot of the current membership think "organic" is simply about not using chemicals . As the good doctor points out though it goes a lot deeper than that- No pun intended! Theres an old saying that folk would do well to heed. "Feed the soil and let the soil feed the plants "

  • @barkershill - appreciate your suggestions and observations. There is also another video up about using kitchen waste for soil composition you might enjoy. We also try to emphasize the soil is built from top down, so build with mulch, leaves and pay attention to what you see, not what you are not seeing. Thanks.

  • Unfortunately this was only video had and Dr. Ganyard has not lectured since. He's good at this and holds Ph.D in entomology. Thanks for the post!!

  • @medfaxx Thanks i'll check it out . Just thought of another book. I THINK the authors name was A, Guest and the book was called No Dig Gardenning . He was saying all the stuff Dr G. is saying . Like E. Balfour he wrote his book in the 1940s when peoples thoughts were understandably on other topics. and i think for this reason neither book recieved the attention it would have done if it came out as a new book today. But HOW the word is spread doesn,t matter as long as it is spread.

  • very good thank you
