Tragedy in the Hornby Island Bald Eagle Nest

May 11, 2009: Early this morning Echo, the second chick, somehow got entangled in Mom's feathers. Mom tried to release her, to no avail. Finally, she flew off, and when she returned, Echo was gone. Very sad.

@1moredayof They got emotions, they simply don't have ways to express them all, how do you think birds are scared of humans, why captive don't run away and wild don? they got emotion toward you :) I also read adult wood pigeons can panic and die due heart attack, why it's happening if they dont have emotions? thru they surly don't understand value of existence and family, for them nesting is just life routine ordered by instinct, as they don't feel value, it's easier for them to move on

@netmouse1 The remaining eaglet Hope fledged that year. It was Phoenix that died of pneumonia the next year. So sad!!!

Yes, probably mom's unfortunatley placed poo is the culprit for baby sticking to mom that way. But notice that the mom doesn't look sad afterwards. After all she's a bird and birds don't have emotions. They are doing fine!

@meezerlover Think about tree sap, bird do do, and lots of very sticky stuff in nature. Have you ever had the unfortunate event of getting pine sap or even bubble gum in your hair, you can't get it out without cutting or freezing.
