a girl from Ohio goes over to England alone with only a guitar and not that much skill at playing it. and at a time when new wave and punk, etc. were taking off. she had plenty of competition to say the least. yet when all was said and done she created the most durable and famous band of the era and a good body of work too. you gotta give her a lot of credit.

i bought the first album- it was a rip off. i bought the second album and every cut was a masterpiece. which means it was set up like 911.

she's a song writer and artist,,uhhh bob dylan wasn't a shredder was he??? her guitar is perfect for her songs

Yes, you have to give her a lot of credit for her moxie and solid basic musical ideas, but Jimmy Scott also helped to make her songwriting a great deal more melodic with a lot of different influences that he had, country, rockabilly, Dave Edmunds-style stuff and just a great original style he had and so on. Such a tragedy he had to die; there is no telling what the two of them would have continued to accomplish had things turned out differently.  They were two of a perfect musical pair.

Nick Lowe did not think that Pretenders had nothing left..he had other obligations. Chris Thomas took over. Nick later produced a single for Pretenders when Johnny Marr joined forces in late 80's, a cover of 1969 by The Stooges and Windows of the World by Hal David & Burt Bacharach. A total smash! Chrissie sang on Nick's song " People Change" a few years ago....they are still mates.....
