try and check the valve clearance and if its off then adjust the valves to the correct clearance and see if that did it rite.

Yeah adjust the valves to something like 004 on your feeler gauge and it should be ok

adjust the valves those engines suck ass and they get out of adjustment so adjust the valves and it will run like new.

i have the same motor and for some reason the motor wont even turn over. when i turn the key it just clicks any thoughts?, i just put a new solenoid switch in it, and swapped the starters with one from my other 14.5hp motor and it did the same thing. HELP PLEASE!!!!

@Shrpshooter99 . I fixed mine. It is most certainly the valves are out of adjustment. I will send you a good video on how to do it. Good luck.

I've rehoned the valves on mine and it's the exact same model and engine and the valves still act the same it's just the battery connection or the starting solenoid has a weak connection and my rig has a burnt exhaust valve and has a loud back fire when you kill the engine.

@Decy8844 .... Actually it was the valve adjustment. The starter was good as I changed it out with another one just like it as well as the solenoid. I adjusted the valves and it starts like it is suppose to now. You are probably not adjusting them the right way. Make sure you adjust them when the engine is cold as well. Good luck!
