Lionel Richie's spirit-lifting introduction to the evening's Michael Jackson tribute preceded a video clip, voiced by Jackson, recalling the tragedy of the King of Pop's death as well as his commitment to multiple worthy causes. Celine Dion led an all-star, 3-D rendition of "Earth Song," harmonizing with Usher before Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, and Smokey Robinson joined in. As the song built to its dramatic crescendo, each superstar took turns asking, on behalf of Mother Earth, the song's sad refrain: "What about us?"

And in an evening of spirited, sometimes joyous performances, the broadcast's more reflective moments might have been its most memorable. Following a star-studded tribute to Michael Jackson, the King of Pop's children appeared, brave-faced and in armbands, to accept an award on his behalf.

Instead of complaining about the quality of the video, which it was that way for a reason,because it was showin in 3-D, we should pay more attention to Michael's message. Cause sadly you don't realize how important someone really was and what you've really lost until they're not with you anymore...Many people have admitted their prejudice and ignorance since his death, and genuinely feel remorse for believing horrible lies and turning from him...There are an ignorant select few who still believe the lies, but his lovers far outweigh his haters...He's a music legend that will never be forgotten and his influence can be seen everywhere.

MJ Earth song is one of the most emotional and slap in the face songs i have ever heard about humanity...I remember it was number 1 xmas 95, and the video was on in shop i was in with my dad....I was too young to appreciate good music then, but I'll always remember that moment...Pretentious/whiny/syr­upy? Um...No critics, it's not...It's REAL and genuine heartfelt art to draw attention to our apathy...He was a genuine great who put his soul into everything he did especially charity RIP LEGEND <3
