Alex Etchart live and acoustic at the wonderful TABARNAK Acoustic night (http://www.myspace.com/tabarnakuk) at the Victoria pub in Mornington Crescent.

A traditional number inspired primarily by Anne Briggs ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXB8dKTt-7Y ). First time singing an English Folk song in the UK so please forgive the lack of experience and crude stylisation!

Lyrics I tend to use (adapted from the many variants):

My young love said to me
My mother won't mind
And me father won't slight you
For your lack of kind
Then he laid his hand on me
And this he did say:
"It will not be long love
'till our wedding day."

He stepped away from me
And he moved through the fair
Oh so fondly I watched him
Move here and move there
Then he made his way homeward
With one star awake
As the Swan in the evening
Moves over the lake.

The people were saying
No two e'er were wed
But a one had a sadness
That went left unsaid
So fondly I watched him
With'is goods and his gear
And that was the last
That I saw of my dear.

Last night in a dream
My true love came in
So softly he entered
His feet made no din
As he knelt close beside me
This he did say:
"It will not be long love
'Till our wedding day."

[ traditional, arr. Alex Etchart ]
