The finalists from this years IndieCade were asked to make a brief video to tell us something about either their game or their team. This is what they created.
Gamestar Mechanic, from E-Line Media, is a an adventure game in which you fix and make your own games to progress. Gamestar Mechanic began with a grant from the MacArthur Foundation to the University of Wisconsin Madison to research whether systems thinking could be taught *through* a game rather than "on top of" a game--a game where the core mechanic was game design itself. The game is now part of the inquiry-based curriculum developed by Katie Salen and the Institute of Play for New York's innovative Quest to Learn School and is also in over 1,000 schools and afterschool programs around the world.
