One of the jazz players who know exactly what they are doing. It is very intelligent playing yet full of spirit and feeling. Thanks for posting!

62 dislikes? More like 62 ahhhh I get it!!!
Nvm, they don't have enough music appreciation to understand what just happened.
I was about to get mad, but a friend long ago told me to never get mad at people that work at a menial job or in this case those that have the musical knowledge equivalent.

Mimi Fox is a wonderful person. When I used to go hear her in hotel lounge in San Jose CA, she always asked me, "Did you bring your horn?" Trying not to look too overwhelmed with joy, I would run like mad to the parking lot for my tenor. What a delight it was to sit in with her! She was very helpful and entirely unpretentious. One thing I found interesting is that she said she did not learn guitar from guitar players. She said she copped jazz solos from horn players like Charlie Parker.

@zomgbbqwtf thats true...

exactly why all metal and rock guitarists should focus more on the" jazzy stuff". Like myself.

it depends on the University. Some are notorious. But most competition in music tends to be unhealthy. I've seen it kill people's potential. At North Texas where I went, it was a big distraction to say the least. The creative mind is mutually exclusive to the competitive instinct.

@zomgbbqwtf no offense, but this straight up isn't true. I'm a jazz guitar major at a university, and the last few years have been a process of getting exposed to as many jazz guitar players as possible. I've seen Mimi live, as well as a basketfull of other really good jazz guitarists, and trust me, there's at least as much elitism and competition in jazz as metal. It's just that jazz players usually have more knowledge than chops so the competition is different.
@wobblingbaby2 Her stuff sits on top of the form. She is keeping the other song going as she plays on top of it. She is "interpreting" the melody and using chord subs and reharmonizing the song. But rest assured, she is playing with When The Saints Go Marching In.

I think SRV was an awesome guitarist, even though it was "twelve bar blues". He took a "simple" style of music and composed and played it better than probably anyone commenting on this page. All genres of music have great composers. I hate categories. Just enjoy this lady's incredible style and sense of music, and quit arguing about other composers. I am sure she would agree.
