These drills develop specific strength that links more closely to discus technique. They are a useful addition to the training program of the discus thrower along with traditional strength and conditioning methods.

  • The athlete concerned was not injured at the time.

Also a think the comment is a touch unwarranted, although I do appreciate the comment about the exercise selection.

The movements are somewhat slowed down, however that was for filming purposes, so that correct movement patterns were seen, not just a fast action.

  • Macwilkins did this exercise so I'm quite sure Ryan Crouser is doing it also.

  • I believe these exercises fall under the categories of specific preperation exercises. They are considered local exercises for the trunk. A specific strength exercise, incorporates the entire throwing movement, or seperate parts of it. This could be done under easier or harder conditions than compeititive exercises. These exercises you have listed would not be considered "specific strength" by its definition.

  • did these excersizes help?

  • I have seen many athletes doing different drills and exercises for the discus but I have never seen elite discus throwers doing these, the rainbows are saxon sidebends, going back to arthur saxon.

  • Thanks, this should help.

    I appreciate it
