  • The little stamp seen on many British records released prior to world war 2 is easily explained! It was simply an easy way for British Goverments to raise taxation. Put simply it was illegal to sell a record without such a stamp stuck on the label!

    O.K., so it was only a few pence per disc bur it raised lots of cash. Particularly because a stamp had to be stuck on each side!

    In Britain time also was when no receipt above a certain amount was legal unless it had a 2d stamp stuck on !

    i never did understand the little white stamp on a record label,espically the silly places people liked to put them!
