  • Thanks for that comment but it might be a challenge for him to win it. Remember they do it 4 times in one day.

  • We know of some top Octathaletes who are training to do some Cross Fit games. There is a fundamental difference between the two events. Where there is a standard course everyone knows and can train for, you can generate much higher levels of fitness. When you do not know for certain, it is far harder to train more effectively. The winning Octathaletes all manage their training best so they can peak on the day. This is why they are the fittest in the World by far.

  • @octathalon I know it's been two months, but how did the number of octathaletes trying out for the CrossFit Open Sectionals do? There were 25,000 people world wide and about 4,000 in the European region competing this year. My gut tells me those that do well in your system also faired well in the CrossFit Open overall.

Hi Nuke Marine. Just to let you know that I have found out today that we had a couple pull out through injury including one of our top Octathaletes, however one lad got through to the last top 60 in Europe and is going on to the Regionals in Bolton in June. He is one of our top Ultra-Octathalon competitors but not the best but he ought to fare quite well depending on what event exercises are chosen on the day. The more CV the better he will do. All the best Jacqui.

  • @octathalon Sorry to hear about the injuries. I'm sure they'll get better. Also, it's great to hear one of your guys made it to Regionals. That's a very tough region producing amazing numbers during the regionals. It's easy to guess that your octathalon system helped with the Metcon heavy method chosen for the CrossFit Open.

Also out of interest, though you did not compete, did you try some of the workouts chosen for the open and compare yourself against the thousands of others?

  • @NukeMarine

Your Metcon method would appear to be absolutely crucial to those who wanted to win the Cross Fit event - depending on the final exercises chosen of course. Our top competitors all have variations on that depending on their body type and Octathalon course. As for myself, I just like running, rowing and cycling too much and enjoy competing with these exercises as well as the weights. I had a look at the open workouts but to be honest they just did not appeal to me.

  • @octathalon Remember the title of the video is "Britain's FITTEST Men", in addition to claims elsewhere that this event finds the fittest. As such, I'm not talking about CrossFit the workout program. I'm talking about CrossFit Games which looks to find the fittest person in the world.

Anyway, I'm sure there are CrossFitters that'll soon take a go at your sport. Any chance representatives of your sport will take a go at the CrossFit Games starting in March?

  • Moving to an event ending with a CV element shows a lack of understanding of what we are doing and where we are coming from and it also fails to fully recognise the importance of recovery rates in testing fitness.

We actually think Cross Fit has a rightful place in the World of Health & Fitness and, as with all sports, it will attract those people who suit it best. We also see though that the Octathalon differs from Cross Fit in important ways and will attract a different type of athlete.

  • I think the CrossFit games has stronger claims to finding the world's fittest athletes. I like their ability to test large number of people and see how they compare against each other. That this year is an open competition further adds validity.

PS: You just created what would be just one workout for CrossFit (search CrossFit Filthy Fifty for a chipper variant). I could move the run to the end of the workout, and use Octathalon with nary an intellectual property infringement. Good luck
