PEOPLE HAVE COMMENTED ON HOW WELL I ROLL FOR A PERSON MY SIZE. FIRST I TELL THEM "IT HELPS TO ROLL LIKE A BALL WHEN YOU ARE THE SHAPE OF ONE". ALL JOKING ASIDE THIS VIDEO CLIP IS A STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTION ON HOW I ADJUSTED THE TRAINING I RECEIVED TO FIT FOR SOMEONE WITH A "MORE TO LOVE" TYPE OF SIZE. WITH A HISTORY OF SOME BACK INJURIES, KNEE INJURIES & SHOULDER INJURIES I HAD TO FIND THE "HAPPY MEDIUM" IN THE TECHNIQUE TO FIT MY SIZE AND MY LIMITATIONS. I HOPE THESE STEPS HELP OTHERS LIKE MYSELF OUT THERE WANTING TO LEARN HOW TO DO THESE ROLLS.

  • your help is awesome bro im a beginner teaching myself to roll before i get into the dojo. i was collapsing alot until you said press off the floor untill you complete the roll i was also straining my abs hard-out until now

my only niggle is with the audio would you please consider doing another video with better sound your efforts are appreciated

    im in NZ btw

  • @ChurBurras Not sure when I'd be able to get to making another video. Have you just tried to turn up the volume up more? If you have any questions I'd gladly answer them (pertaining to the video). Have a great week.

  • You have no idea how unbelievably helpful this is. I was taught originally a "grab tail" technique, it's hard to explain, but it never worked because I'd always hit my head or slam my shoulder. This is a lot easier for me to work with (though I still haven't quite gotten it).

  • @Aristes I know exactly what technique you speak of. I too was showed that one as well and had the same problem. Thats why I came up with this technique. I made a few adjustments myself and it worked. I'm so glad that it has helped others like myself roll better and safer. Have a great day.

  • thanks for posting this vid... i just started aikido and I am a bigger guy (6'2"/260). I've been pretty intimidated by the ukemi. I still don't have it nailed yet, but I really appreciate watching this...

  • @batboysdad You have embarked on a journey that is going to be alot of fun. Stay relaxed and allow the ground to be your friend...if you don't fight the technique the better you'll fall. Thanks for posting.

  • @Ikositesera Thank you for your comment. When I first started Aikido I weighted in at 370 lbs. Now I am 280 lbs. Aidido has been a great part of my weight loss. That and table tennis (ping pong). The koolest thing about aikido is that you dont have to be in perfect physical shape to do it. The techniques require very little strength and as long as you understand how to use your center you will have no problem applying them. I hope this helps you. God bless.

  • Merfiej helped me learn to roll again after 10 years away from Karate. I was 360lbs 9 months ago when I started back up. I have lost almost 40 lbs and own the under belts in the sparring ring. Use your weight as an advantage.
