Interesting cover, the Brits really had something here.

@ukbarton : Yes, Joe Meek's "reward" was that he provided the song for the B-side, a little ditty he'd written himself titled "Put a Ring on her Finger" - that way Joe got composer royalties on a par with sales of the Ritchie Valens composed A-side, which made the Top Ten in the UK charts! Don't be fooled by the composer credit on the label which reads "Duke" - that was a pseudonym often used by Joe Meek back then - perhaps he thought the taxman wouldn't know about his royalties!!

Reputedly the one single by Tommy Steele that was engineered/produced by the legendary Joe Meek!

@optandus I didn't know that but it's a very good recording.

@optandus I have recently learned that The Roland Shaw Orchestra backed Tommy on this and some other tracks.

Not bad for a 1958 recording.
Unsure who played guitar on this track but Bert Weedon did work on many of Tommy's recording sessions.
