Lubomir Pipkov - Piano Quartet (1938) Part 3
Lubomir Pipkov (1904 - 1974) was born in Lovech. He studied piano with Ivan Torchanov and Henryk Wiesner and continued his education at the Paris Ecole Normale de Musique where he studied composition with Paul Dukas, Nadia Boulanger and piano with Yvonne Lefebure. After returning in Bulgaria he worked as a choirmaster and accompanist at the National Opera in Sofia. L. Pipkov is co-founder of the Contemporary music Society of Bulgarian Composers in1933. He was also Director of the National Opera in Sofia (1944 - 1948), President of the Union of Bulgarian Composers (1945 - 1954) and Professor of vocal ensembles at the State Academy of Music - Sofia. Founder of Music magazine. L. Pipkov has participated in many international juries and congresses, being also active as a man of letters and poet, publicist and public figure, pedagogue and artist. Through the universality of his artistic and personal qualities L. Pipkov joints the ranks of the leading intellectuals of our century.
