@fansinatra I actually liked it more because she didn't make it tongue-in-cheek. Alanis has done quite a few covers of famous songs, and she never emulates the original artist, for which I think she deserves credit. She made it into a purely vocal performance, and it does her wonderful voice justice.

Alanis Morissette simply doesn't have the precision and control needed for Porter's songs. Nothing about this performance is redolent of the 1930s. Sloppy stuff.

Complete lack of musicality, almost as bad as the film is, which is amazing.

i'm not really into alanis morrissette, but
she did GREAt on this song and as for the movie not being a hit----well, as princeandrey said, the general populace is rather limited....the only films that "sell" involve a lot of pyrotechnics....
as for me, it is one of my favorite movies of the past decade ....

I like this song. Maybe its not how the original song sounds like, but I like this version. It was attitude and sass :]
