The Murray tune is the original; the tune sung here is by William Kirkpatrick, and was written not long after the original. The Murray tune is most widely known in the U.S., where the carol originated, while the Kirkpatrick tune is more widely known in Commonwealth countries. This a rare case where one set of words has two outstanding melodies, both of which should be sung.
This is easily one of the best currently available rendering of the Willcocks arrangement of Away in a manger. I feel as if this choir got it just right. I know that some Americans are fonder of the other tune, the one by James R. Murray, but I think this is a moving version of the carol nonetheless. I think YouTube will be a great asset during Christmastime so that we can know the different tunes for multi-setting carols like this one and O Little Town.
