Red Arrows Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging 33 died on 20/08/2011. It happened in an open area just outside the village of Throop, near to Bournemouth Airport after the elite RAF aerobatics team had completed a display over the sea front as part of the annual air show.

Group Captain Simon Blake, commandant of the RAF's Central Flying School, said: "Flt Lt John Egging, known as 'Eggman', joined the team in the autumn of 2010. A gifted aviator, he was chosen to fly in the Red 4 slot, on the right hand outside of the famous Diamond Nine formation -- an accolade in itself being the most demanding position allocated to a first year pilot.

"The incident will be investigated by the military air accident investigation team."

  • Does anybody know the reason for this crash? I heard the was a problem with the ejection system?

  • can have nothing but respect for all who fly.RIP Jon Egging

  • Yes my frontal lobe still works sometimes so i will desist from rude comments. However may i point out that display flying is not without risk.I'm certain that Jon knew this and i have no doubt that no one could have said : quit like his parents or his wife. It's not a million miles away from being a biker. I like my legs so i quit bikes. Geddit.

  • sob they were amazing wit all of them beter than the blue angels

  • Sad loss of life. I made a short film with the Arrows years ago, very professional men. I don't think they are especially "brave" there are others out there who are in the firing line every day, they are just doing what they are trained for and paid for. But it is always tragic when someone dies in this type of accident, I live very close to Scampton where they are based.

  • This is why Im not a Jet pilot like he is,

maybe that the pilot is tuff enough to risk a crash/death,

but what about your/my children and wife??!

  • Jon egging risked his own life to save others he did not have to stay in the plain he could of bailed but did his duty to save others but for that he is a hero R.I.P. Jon and regards to all of your family and friends and to all of the RED ARROWS

  • Damn, enough with all the popup annotations already! Ruining your fucking video. Save that shit for the video description.

  • I witnessed the Red Arrows Team 2007 at the Langkawi International Maritime Aerospace Display (LIMA). Their amazing skills should be remembered honured and respected. Rest in peace Jon Egging and regards to his family, friend and country. Your team and your skills will always be remembered.
