  • Wouldn't it have been better if you assigned a semi-transparent material to the sideslip indicator in Blender, rather than mapping it to a cockpit texture?

  • @Stickman698 Well, semi-transparent materials work in Blender, but they don't translate to X-Plane the same way. X-Plane does require semi-transparency to be expressed on the texture. You have control over whether you wish to override the texture's transparency (make it opaque), or cut it off at a certain Alpha value... but you cannot make a non-transparent texture show up transparent in X-Plane by assigning transparency to the material.

  • @danklaue So, I can't use a material made within Blender and assigned a transparency factor?

  • @Stickman698 The way you define transparency in X-Plane is through the texture. You can NOT take an opaquely textured object and make it look transparent in X-Plane.

  • @danklaue I got that, but I asked if it can be done through Blender's internal material system?

  • @Stickman698 Normally, every object in X-Plane is textured. You usually don't see un-textured objects, and this is why it's a bit unconventional of you to ask if you can achieve transparent materials in X-Plane, because you're pretty much talking about un-textured objects... which is very uncommon. I think I tried this once, but I don't think it worked, because I don't think the export script acknowledges transparent materials.
