Maybe its time to be pragmatic and not let our dislike of Newt Gingrich'es admittedly horrible personality, character and shameful personal history distratct us from the fact that, as Alan Alan Boyle noted at the 20 m 35 s mark : “Newt is the science geek candidate.” The space & SF & science fan - for all he has to pander to Tea Party prejudices. I don't like him one little bit - but he is our best hope for progress in human spaceflight. Better than Romney, better than Obama. Think of that.

I have to say I disagree when it comes to Newt Gingrich's space plan. I say this grudgingly because Ireallycan't stand the guy but I'm favour of that particular Newt speech & idea & think he's the first person in a very long time to say the right thing on this issue. There are many problems with the thought of him as President but, dangnabbit, on this single topic I reckon he is absolutely right.
