  • This is my favorite John Prine song. Thanks for posting it! I was listing to NPR on the way home from work today, and they were talking about a Vet who was severely injured in Afghanistan, came home, and became addicted to pain meds and ultimately died. Very sad, and it reminded me of this song. Good timing that I saw your post of this song today. Thanks for sharing.

  • Another great video from Mojo; thanks again.....and again.......and again!

  • nice job but I think in the chorus when the grass is growing round his brain it would be happening over the G chord still instead of going back to the D the way you do.

  • Great effort on this one, it definitely gives the viewer/student a good idea of the song structure and how John Prine songs are played rhythmically. However, John plays this song with a Capo on the 5th fret so he can get those real high plucks. There is a great example of it here on youtube, but it won't let me post the link; you can hear and see there that what he's playing is EXACTLY what you hear on the original album version. Just some food for thought. Thank You for posting this lesson!

  • This is a wonderful song and it's great to see that you like it too, and you're willing to help others learn to play it. You are creating immortality for this tune!

  • Great. Very fine. Thanks for the lesson.

  • I for one am glad it's in a strumming style as my finger picking abilities are horrible. But I love strumming my guitar to relax as do many other amature players. Notice this video has been visited almost 18 thousand times. They must have quite a following from folks that just want to learn and enjoy and are thankful for the folks that run this forum. I think it's GREAT!!!

  • Everytime I've heard John Prine play this live or recorded it has been voiced in a finger picking style. Odd that you chose to teach it in a strumming style.

  • I'm a huge Prine fan, play tons of his stuff. Noticed on some of your excellent how to's you call a B a Bflat and visa versa. Thanks for your great lessons. I've been working on Bruised Orange lately, Angel from Montgomery is a standard in my set list. Other greats, Christmas in Prison, Souvenirs, Mulenberg County, Fish and Whistle, and Storm Windows, to name a few... :-) Thanks again for the lesson.
