Little trivia here. The CGI here is done by Ray Harryhausen. The song "Worried about Ray" by the Hoosiers is about the loss of Ray's CGI works in the modern world. In fact the music video itself is done using his CGI techniques

Still one of the greatest special effects sequences of all time, and a beautifully choreographed fight scene unmarred by the hyper fast editing and extreme close ups that ruin so many current action scenes.

I you like fantasy films go to CRYSTAL OF THE GODS.

As an artist, I value any kind of art created by skillfull, human hands infinitely more than something done by a computer. If CGI is also a time consuming process, then how is it so advanced from stop-motion? Isn't it supposed to be a labor saving method? I just respect stop-motion more. Willis O'Brien and Ray Harryhausen were true ARTISTS in every sense of the word.

@kovik62 CGI isnt as easy to make as you think, especially not if you want it to be good. I bet stop-motion is easier to do if you just do some small stuff with it, but if you want to do a big battle-scene like this, CGI wins, because when you made the initial models and so on, the animation bit isnt nearly as hard as stop-motion. But it is in no way "easy". And your idea of art is a bit skewed, are you saying that because something is made with a computers help it isnt art?

To everyone comparing CGI to this. It is basically the same thing, except you do it in a computer, and that means that you can automate a lot of it, thus making it a lot easier and realistic.
Older CGI, like from the 90s, were not very good, but you cant compare this to well made modern movies, I bet you havent even noticed where its been used in most places.
This scene is none the less brilliant, even by todays standards. Realism isnt everything ;)

This is by far the most groundbreaking effects in any movie.
The problem is that older movies like these used special effects to tell a story, while films like avatar used a story to tell special effects.
Personally I think this scene still looks amazing. most GCI films lack grit, they're all so sterile and flawless. These skeletons look like they're really there. Avatar looked like a big colourful disney cartoon.
