After a park proposition for the McAllen Botanical Gardens was turned down by voters in 2010, city leaders turned to the Valley Land Fund to explore uses for the property.
On October 22, Valley Land Fund President Jim Tabak enlisted the help of a diverse group of people for a brainstorming session.
That evening 6 architects each moderated a team and were to come back with a design.
In about 6 months, McAllen Parks and Recreation Director Sally Gavlik said she hopes to have public hearings and allow the public to view some of the top designs.

I really miss that haven of paradise. I rember as a child the ducks that would migrate thier on the man made lake, oh and the watefall, and all those birds and butterflies. I really hope they reopen it charge people $2.00 entery, that would help in part of the cost to rebuild it. I just wish you would of left West side alone and keep it as a presurve, that would of been the city mini Central park.
