@davebest2001 Grumpy? I saw Alex in the late '80s with friends. I took an LP cover with me. (I never, ever have done that, before or since.) My friends had to support me as we walked up to speak with him, as I freaked out about being so close to one of my heroes. He was anything but grumpy -- signed my Big Star album cover with "Baby Keep Cool," told me a childhood story of his mom going mental when she saw Raymond Burr at the airport, so he understood what I was going through. 100% sweet.

@nycalling72 He was permanently grumpy

@davebest2001 Maybe he was a little grumpy from people coming up and annoying him.

Sounds like you're pretty easy speaking ill of the dead. No prob. No one can hear you from deep inside your arse. (pretty fine with Rockabilly myself)

RIP. I hate to speak ill of the dead. I saw Big Star live in Dublin. Chilton was a grumpy mean spiritied old curmudgeon. He only wanted to play rockabilly stuff. Pity he disappeared up his own arse in the latter years

I COMPLETELY AGREED WITH YOU!

Wow--wish I'd been there for that. Thanks for posting!
He has one of the most distinct voices in rock. Sort of an underground national treasure.
