"My Faith Looks Up To Thee"- Mahalia Jackson

There is something so soothing about the way she sings this song. The way the piano, organ, bass, and what I believe is a glockenspiel all accent here and there as her, albeit worn, but still beautiful voice proclaims her love and faith in God. There are no machines to cover for the unsure moment (3:01) or her lyrical err towards the end, and this just makes it even more real, and that is what I love about her. A very sincere version of an already beautiful song...

Awesome. She has got to be one of the idols of Eva Cassidy.

I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (August 8), we sang this as the closing hymn. It is #759 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship.

@Living4Him31 Songs like these have to grow spiritually w' you. Like you, I liked Mahalia's fast and rhythmics songs. It wasn't until life showed its' downside that these songs touched my heart so I can meditate on God's goodness in this land of the living.!!!!!

Thank you very much. He was shot in the chest. Pray for this country. There's lots of gang violence going on and it's killing our kids...

Very nice! I didn't appreciate songs like this when I was a young man. Now that I'm almost 40, this song and others like it (e.g., "Precious Lord, Take My Hand," "Jesus, Lover of My Soul,"...) are rich. They stir something up in you!
