From the two leaders in the category we take a closer look at the Nikon D300 and the Canon 40D. they both share a lot of technology with their bigger siblings in a more affordable package.

  • The number of focus points has nothing to do with Depth of Field.

  • nikons also win with low noise, but because of their relatively lower resolutions. however, for the average person, 10-12 is plenty. 6 mp is usually fine, which is why i'd say the d40 would be a great entry-level dslr. also the most economic way to go :D

    sorry i went biased there XD canons are great too. any will produce great images, neither is better than the other. just look at things that are more important to you.

  • The 40d is a beast. Total workhorse. Fast and rugged.

  • @nosaeRfOecioV It does not mean the same thing as DOF but it can determine where you focus and change how the DOF is planed across an image.
