On May 31, 2008, 75 year-old Richard D. Quintana, Jr. received an Honorary High School Diploma, as his adult children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives, friends, and the Pueblo community watched, as Mr. Quintana "walked" with the Pueblo Central High School graduating Class of 2008. Encouraged by Sen. Barack Obama, his daughter worked to assist our military veterans; she began with her Father. Together, with the Department of Education, Department of Veterans Affairs, Mr. Brandt Erickson, Colorado Association of School Boards, Central High School Principal Mr. Robert Gonzales and his assistant, Mrs. Mary Beth Garrett; Mr. Quintana became a recipient of "Operation Recognition" and was given an Honorary High School Diploma. With tears in his eyes, he proclaimed that it was indeed one of the proudest day's of his life. Operation Recognition is authorized by State law (SB-100) and is offered by the Colorado Board. of Veterans Affairs, in cooperation with the Colorado Department of Education and the Colorado Association of School Boards.
