@brotherdarkness89 this oaf wouldn't have stood a chance against a holyfield in his prime. he wouldn't have got anywhere near him. same with tyson or lewis. valuev is more of a demonstration of how weak the heavyweight division is now than anything else.

@rephaim23 in teresting. None of their dna seems to have migrated further into presenf day age. They vanished. People in that area are about 5.5 feet even in todays age. These heidelbergs must have moved to europe and then vanished. Not related to present day ppl in the area of course.

Some of the femurs in the Witwatersrand University are huge. In an interview to 'The Naked Scientists' Lee Berger comments on a femur and say, "That’s so big we can’t even calculate how big this individual was. You would need an NBA basketball player to get someone of the height someone like this would have been. Something like over 7 feet tall." He then says, "These individuals are extraordinary, they are giants."

I'm not sure they were light weight. The estimates I have seen place Heidelberg males at 6 feet and 220 lbs. The African fossils were even bigger than that. I have no reason to doubt they were large scale, I mean if they found fossils of them they must have been widespread enough.

@rephaim23 perhaps, but too small of a group to survive on the large scale - why they got surpassed by the other groups we will never know. as far as i know they were very lightweight and thin (bone structure) - but taller than sapiens, in average.

Yes, height alone is just one feature. Neanderthal was shorter than modern man but much much stronger. Homo Heidelbergensis I would argue was not only taller, but stronger yet than Neanderthal and modern man. The fossil bones from Africa are enormous, various height estimates of 6 to over 7 feet have been attributed to them, and they were massive in proportion to their height. True giants as Prof. Lee Berger calls them.

@rephaim23 yep, although less about height, more about proportions, muscle mass, arm length, bond thickness, and facial features. they are physically stronger pecies than we are. our african sapiens ancestors just outnumbered and outsmarted them when they moved north - despite the neanderthals physical dominance.
