Amdani Juma has lived and worked in the UK since being granted Humanitarian protection in 2003. He was a pro democracy activist in his home country of Burundi and escaped death several times before he fled to Rwanda, just as the genocide started. He works for the Terrence Higgins Trust in Nottingham in a highly specialised area. His ability to speak six different languages enables him to communicate his HIV prevention message to vulnerable and hard to reach groups, a unique and invaluable asset to the Health Service.
Despite the above and numerous letters in support of him being granted indefinite leave to remain in the UK, from politicians, organisations and thousands of humanitarian friends, the Home office seems determined to deport him back to a still violently unstable Burundi. Amdani believes he will be killed if he returns.
