The Pickerel River between French Lake and Pickerel Lake in Quetico Provincial Park is currently a narrow shallow river originally formed by the receeding glaciers and glacial melt. Contemporarily, it is narrower with the original banks tall pines. The current bank grows broad leaf trees and shrubs on land that was formed by the silt and gravel in the original river bed.
