Guam, Saipan, and Rob Stewart on Entertainment Tonight Canada

The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands banned the sale, trade, and possession of shark fins on January 27, 2011. Guam followed with a similar ban on March 9, 2011. Rob Stewart, director and producer of the film Sharkwater, played a role in the passage of both conservation policies and will feature the stories in his upcoming film, Rise Again.

The students on Guam started a grass roots movement called Shark Tsunami. They used social media and the internet to collect letters from school children across the world in support of the shark fin ban on Guam.
