Youth Parliament takes on Birdman Rally at the 2011 Moomba Festival in Melbourne, Australia. Youth Governor Kieran Ryan invites young Victorians to join the 2011 Youth Parliament, with applications now being open. Go to http://www.victoria.ymca.org.au/youthparliament for more information. Applications close 30th March 2011, this is the 25th year of Youth Parliament in Victoria!
Youth Governor Ryan, representing YMCA Victoria and Youth Parliament Victoria was interviewed on Weekend Sunrise, Ten News and told 40,000 spectators to get ready for the 2011 Youth Parliament this July, inviting the public to the chambers of Parliament House. Before flying off the edge of the Birdman Barge in his 8 meter flying craft 'The Usher of the Black Rod'.
Kieran was elected into the role of Youth Governor of Victoria in front of (then) Premier Brumby last year and currently represents all those aged 16-25 in Victoria. He's planning to take out the major prize of $5,000 by flying all the way across the Yarra without getting his suit wet.
Check out Kieran practicing his take off in MX Newspaper on Thursday: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=191669447539978&set=a.190721454301...

Kieran's girlfriend Katie coincidentally was also competing in the Birdman representing Boost Juice. The main event took place from 12pm-2pm on the Moomba Birdman barge, Yarra River behind Federation Square with estimated 40,000 spectators.
Later in the year Youth Parliament will be holding a massive publicity stunt on the steps of Parliament to open the 25th Youth Parliament of Victoria. This will include hundreds of young people singing and dancing in celebration, including the 120 Youth Parliamentarians of 2011, who will then enter the chambers, debate the legislation they've written on the issues important to them under the eye of the media, the public and the actual Victorian politicians.
The Youth Parliament includes 3 days of debate in the chambers of Parliament before handing the youth legislation onto the Premier of Victoria during the closing ceremony. We have had over 20 pieces of legislation go on to become Victorian law, including last years bill 'Removal of Glass in Entertainment Venues Bill' with the aim of replacing glass with plastics in Melbourne clubs notorious for glass related violence. Just 3 months after handing over this piece of legislation to then Premier John Brumby, it then went on to be passed by the Victorian Parliament.
The 2011 Youth Parliament will sit in the chambers on 11th, 12th and the 14th of July 9am-4pm.
Brilliant!
