Paul Brandon Gilbert es un guitarrista estadounidense. Nacido el 6 de noviembre de 1966 en Carbondale, Illinois. Comenzó a tocar la guitarra a los 5 años, y a los 15 apareció en la revista Guitar Player junto a Yngwie malmsteen. En 1984 se mudó a Los Ángeles para ir a estudiar al Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT), volviéndose instructor al año. Entre sus alumnos más destacados se encuentran Buckethead (Muchos pensaron que este era en realidad Paul Gilbert), Nuno Bettencourt, Akira Takasaki , Alan Sosa y Armando Sosa (conocido también como tano). También ha dado clases en la academia musical GIT de Japón y de Los Angeles.
Es considerado uno de los guitarristas más rápidos del mundo, por ello salió elegido dentro de los diez primeros en una encuesta de la revista Guitar One.
Fue miembro y fundador de Racer X y Mr. Big. En 1996 dejó el grupo Mr. Big (siendo reemplazado por Richie Kotzen) y comenzó su carrera solista. Recientemente ha participado en el famoso concierto G3 junto a John Petrucci y Joe Satriani.
