daphne asked her father, Peneus (the river-god) to transform her into something else, because her form as a human has brought her to danger, i.e., apollo loved her... and it is common knowledge that when a god loves a mortal, the mortal has to suffer exile or kill her offspring blah. haha, hope it was helpful :)
