The palomino horse is our "cow" for this demonstration.

This short clip demonstrates the difference in just turning in on the cow vs. stopping and turning on the cow and how it affects your position on that cow.

In the first turn, I'm in proper driving postion on that cow, at it's shoulder. When I get to the head, it stops and turns and I just do a barrel turn toward that cow. You will see that I end up BEHIND that cow, chasing him. In competition, that cow will most likely drift to the center of the pen, or at least run away from me and I'll have difficulty catching up. I'll also incur penalties for being a length behind the cow and "loss of working advantage".
I'm going to catch up to my cow by widening out for my second turn - this will slow the cow down. I will then miss my stop again, again demonstrating what happens when I miss that stop.
Finally, for my third and forth turns, I stop, then turn and you'll see I end up where I should be, at that cows shoulder, driving him forward.
