Grand Haven Schooling Show
Training Level Test 4
64.8%

It had rained most of the night before the show and the footing was quite sloppy. Brevard's huge feet repeatedly hydroplaned on the puddles in the warmup ring, making him lose his balance several times. It was hard to keep his already lacking show confidence up, so I rode conservatively. We had a chance to ride around the show ring a couple of times before the judge was ready, and things were looking good, until we entered the ring. Just before "X" was a soft spot from rain water settling, making the footing unstable. Other riders at the show kept talking about the "hole" before "X" and though I was trying to be careful, we found it anyway, and almost fell on our faces before our halt. Brevard has been known to be clumsy, not picking up his feet, but this was not one of those moments. The ground shifted under his hoof and he lost his balance. After nearly falling on our faces, I took my time to make sure Brevard was okay (his poor knees!) before we continued. I think I was more shaken up than he was. We managed to pull ourselves together and ride the test the best we could. There were a couple of my 'air-headed' moments, but overall, a nice test with good marks and encouraging comments from the judge. Our first (earned) First Place ribbon! (..we had one before because we were the only ride in the class. I don't count that one..)

  • OMG...this is the first time I've watched this video. Beautiful test...I can not believe how you recovered from that slip. They should have corrected the conditions in that arena. You are tough girl! Way to hang in there!

  • Oh my goodness! Very nice test! And WOW... they should have really taken a look at that footing before hand. I'm glad you and Brevard are alright.

  • Wow...great recovery after a bad slip! Cudos to you and Big B.
