In Honor of Bella - Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee Slideshow

Precious Bella, dog friend to The Sanctuary's founding elephant, Tarra, has died. The unlikely duo of an elephant and a dog reminded each of us of the importance of loving one other, despite our differences.

Bella trusted Tarra so completely she would let the great elephant stroke her stomach with her foot and caress her with her trunk. Bella and Tarra found sanctuary together in the Asian habitat of The Elephant Sanctuary; swimming in ponds, exploring new paths, and resting side by side in the sunshine.

Bella, we will miss you and your infectious playfulness! We will continue your work, and take care of your friend, Tarra.

I am so sorry and sad to hear the passing of Bella..i followed these two through videos for a long time..i remember how Tarra would wait for Bella at times that Bella was ill...it was so sad...bless The Sanctuary for loving and giving these two such a wonderful life..this really breaks my heart, but as we know...this is the cyle of life..may i ask how Tarra is doing? I know she is heartbroken in extreme grief...so very sad..GOD BLESS ALL ANIMALS and GOD BLESS THE ELEPHANT SANCTUARY...kisses

Oooops, sorry, I'm catching up on your films in reverse order and did not realise that Bella was suspectedly attacked and killed by coyotes. Mercifully, Tarra found her body and carried Bella back to the sanctuary building i.e. at least she knows Bella is no longer alive rather than not knowing the circumstances of her disappearance. Elephants are highly cognitive animals, therefore, IMHO, it's a blessing in disguise, but nonetheless VERY hard to bear.

I'm so thankful that you were able to take Bella in and care for her. I'm sure her remaining years were pleasant ones with her human and non-human animal friends. How anyone can abandon their pets dumbfounds me; it's almost like abandoning young human family members. We'll miss Bella, thank goodness Tarra has other intraspecific members to interact with. Question: How is Tarra aware that Bella is no longer alive? I know elephants in the wild are able to mourn dead members by smelling them etc.

Oh no, Bella died? Little precious thing! How is Tara taking the news. I hope she is not depressed. These innocent precious animals, we all should learn from them.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Bella was truly an amazing dog! But, she is in a better place. She doesn't limp anymore & can run with ease. Shes probably waiting for Bella at the golden gate. They will be reunited someday. Rest in peace, Bella. And, Tarra... I wish you the best. I pray for Tarra each night. I also pray about Bella, hoping that she is having a fun time in heaven! <3

I still cry when I see Bella on your uploads or think of Bella's passing and the grief her best friend Tarra is having. Its good to hear that Shirley and her other sisters are supporting her in her time of grief. Elephants are such wonderful creatures so capable of so much love. I cry and mourn with Tarra for her loss of Bella.

Amazing tribute.....and truly an amazing story.......thank you for all the work you do and thank you for sharing Bella and Tara's story.......as an animal lover I am continually awe struck with how powerful animals are and what we as humans can learn from them......thank you again.

Thats ashame. You really shouldn't have let Bella run around with Tarra like that, you should have only had her in a certain place where Tarra can see her. If you would have kept her in a safer area, I am sure should would still be alive today. Not to be mean, but This is just so sad for me.
