Die Lokomotiven der GM-Tochter EMD sind gerade dabei die Baureihen 217, 225 und die Ludmillas aus dem Bw Mühldorf /Obb. zu verdrängen. Schade um diese schönen alten Loks (20.10.2011).

if the germans like these boring characterless engines then they are welcome to them, we have plenty more in the uk that nobody would be sad to see disappear!
-
Yes but look at the size of your locos.freights! ours are micky mouse in comparision!
-
Now you lot in the UK and Europe know what we go through here in the States. Same locos, different paint schemes. Union Pacific, Burlington Northern/Santa Fe, and Norfolk Southern, CSX. No variety at all.

Interesting that Class 66s are working in Germany. What do the crews think of them..? I don't think British drivers like them very much. {Too noisy in the cab, horrible cab seat etc}.

Give me a Class 50 any day...Have you seen the damn awful looking Class 70..?
-
what noise?

I second that Fastkay, I have lost all interest in modern railways since the passing of the great British locos you mention. I have absolutely no interest in these boring ying yings or any other trains running around on our railways currently. A locomotive that's not built to a standard, like locos of old but built down to a cost, a one size fits all loco to be exported across Europe.

I liked the noise it made when it stopped!
They're actually a good reliable motor, and yes ok they may not have the classic character of a 37 or 47 or whatever, but you have to move with the times and appreciate the modern stuff as well. Look at when the old diesel electrics came in and people hated them because they weren't steam. The world moves on and so does mechinery.
