In Basic Combat Training, the United States Army teaches its soldiers to exemplify the military values of Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. Yet before September 20th, 2011 many troops in the United States military were unable to fully embody these values under Don't Ask Don't Tell, the policy which prohibited them from serving openly as gays in the military. On the eve of the recent repeal, Yuan Qu spoke with a gay active-duty member of the military, and discussed the implications of a landmark new study about the policy.
