Short ride on Enfield Diesel

Hi and thanks for the short trip. I'm a diesel engineer and a collector of Royal Enfields but I cant quite make my mind up about putting the two together. Fuel economy, long engine life, it can't be beaten with the diesel, but its loud. Certainly couldn't call it a stealth bike. Love diesel and Enfields all the same. Regards from England.

My God, I almost went deaf just watching the video! It seems to do an even better job than a Harley at converting fuel into noise without much unwanted speed! How can you stand the hammering of your eardrums?

Somehow i got the idea its using a ruggerini, but after watching your other video, i stand corrected. That quite a top wack for a single cylinder. Thank you and take care

good cam position it was nice

I think the prize for converting fuel to noise is still held by any General Motors 2 stroke diesel, as is the environmental award for recycling, returning most of the lube oil to the ground via leaks between services. I love this bike, I'm sure the sound is nothing that a set of ear protectors couldn't handle!! But 97 km/h on an Enfield ? you sure your not a kamakazi pilot?
what rpm do you get the top speed at? I am thinking of doing the same thing with the same motor (ruggerini is kohler now), with a 29/56 tooth primary (mainly to save the clutch) and a 20/38 secondary. i figure if the 3600rpm redline motor can pep to 3400 with all the resistance, i'll still get a 110kmph top speed. Could you tell me what tooth gearing are you using?

@brutussandhu
Top speed of 97km/h is at 3600rpm. I don't remember the tooth gearing.
Speed quickly drops below 80 km/h when going uphill... Maybe your Ruggerini can do better.

Sorry to "spam", can't seem to edit prior posts. Does it blow much smoke, much like some of the diesel cars do?
Fuel economy is, wow, impressive. How is the acceleration?
G200Sleepr 1 year ago
@G200Sleepr Not really smoke. It is spitting small pieces of coal ;-)
The acceleration is there. Not much more than a few minutes to reach 97km/h.

hey the petrol version gives fuel consumption of 35 km per litre and u say this diesel gives 50 per litre no way and if it does then can i use bio diesel as its more cheaper 21 pence per litre and i can save 3 fourth on biodiesel money

I am using 2/3 Diesel and 1/3 straight vegetable oil. The engine runs smoother with this mixture.
As far as I can see, biodiesel should be ok.
