1 John 4:16 "And we have known and have believed the love which God has in us. God is love, and the one abiding in love abides in God, and God in him. "

True, but you are missing the many conditions on that love throughout scripture. People confuse tolerance of sin and worldly love for the love that is demonstrated in scripture. If you go down a few verses John also says that if you say you love God but hate your brother then you don't really love God, hence you're not abiding in love, & therefore God is not abiding in you, that's totally conditional. Why do you think the whole unconditional love message wasn't taught until the 1960's?

Yet, again we see that it is our love that is conditional and not God's. God isn't the one with the problem in these verses, we are. Answer this question, If God does not love unconditionally, why did He send Jesus to die on a cross for sin that wasn't His, and for people who do not love Him?

God's love in conditional - which is exactly why He had to send His Son Jesus to die. If He loved us unconditionally then He would forgive us and we would all go to heaven regardless of sin. That is what unconditional love is. But because His love is conditional, He sent His son to die for us, so that we might be reconciled to Him and live in Him and have forgiveness. He extended to us the opportunity to be right with Him, and its based on the condition we accept Christ.

Ummm..no...if that were the case then God wouldn't be a just God. Sin requires a punishment. It is a debt owed that must be paid. That is why Jesus had to die because someone had to pay the debt in order for us to be close to God. 1Jn 4:10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be a propitiation relating to our sins.

God's love extended to a person is conditioned by His plan to give eternal life to those whom He has enabled to believe on His Son. The conditions of God's love are resident within Himself. As our opening Bible verse says: He hath MADE us accepted!

Which speaks of unconditional love yet again! If it were conditional He wouldn't have MADE us to be accepted at all. Which proves that His love isn't about what we do since He made us accepted! The entire Bible, the Gospel, The Messiah Himself is a very picture of God's unconditional love for mankind. Your argument can't hold up against the very scriptures you misinterpret. Instead of trying to find Scripture to fit your theory, change your mind to fit the Word of God!!!!

And Him making us accepted is conditional! Go on believing the doctrine that was birthed in the hippie movement, you will not find any of the church fathers, nor in church history, as well as scripture, this new doctrine of unconditional love.

I also think it was Pope John Paul II, a heretic, who declared God's love unconditional. We must all take care that we are in the position of receiving His love, and not His wrath.
