The Accident: Ismail Kadare, Tuesday 5 October 2010, 6.30pm, Venue: Free Word Centre, 60 Farringdon Road, London, EC1R 3GA. In association with FLOW - the Free Word Festival.

Born in 1936, Ismail Kadare is Albania's best-known poet and novelist. His international reputation was cemented when, in 2005, he was awarded the first Man Booker International Prize for 'a body of work written by an author who has had a truly global impact.'

His latest novel, The Accident, intimately documents an affair between two people and their mutually destructive obsession that mirrors the conflicts of the region. In a rare UK appearance, Kadare discusses his work with the author and chair of English PEN's Writers in Translation committee, Julian Evans.
