A clean way of refilling a self filling fountain pen on the go using an eye dropper bottle of ink.

1. Hold pen upright
2. squeeze air out of reservoir
3. saturate feed with a few drops of ink
4. let pen suck in ink
5. repeat step 3-5 until pen can no longer suck in ink (if using a bladder refill mechanism (Hero pen), start at step 2 instead of 3)
6. if ink reservoir is not full enough go to 2

With the convenience of having a small bottle of ink with you all the time, there's actually no need to refill to the brim (step 6).

If an owner of a Visconti travel pot feels that they no longer need the travel pot because of this method, pls send it my way :) I'd love to see what material is used to seal the pen to the tube and to try it out!

  • This method is very good when we have a piston fill fountain pen ( eg. Pelikan Souveran, Montblanc 146 or 149 etc) and the ink bottle is too low. In this case you can´t use a syringe cause those pens don't use a cartridge or a converter. BTW, are you a FPN (Fountain Pen Network) member?

    best regards,

    Fabricio from São Paulo, Brazil

  • @fabrimedeiros9888 Yes, I'm a FPN member but lately for some reason, I get the #2000 error and I can no longer read any msgs :(

  • I had thought about that filling method (feed saturation), but I have never used it. It's quite slow, however there are some situations in which that method can be convenient. For ex, when the the ink bottle is too low, and it's hard to fill the resevoir. You also could use a syringe to fill the converter. It's funny that nobody remember or comment on this method, except the syringe to fill cartridges. Thank you for sharing this idea!

  • @fabrimedeiros9888 With some practice, this method is as fast as sticking the pen into an ink bottle as there is no cleanup afterwards; it's especially fast with the aeromatic/bladder types of pens. Another good thing I found was that I could bring along a small unbreakable bottle of my favourite ink with me and I would not run out of ink. I've been using this method for some years now.

Everyone has their favourite method. This is yet another. Glad u liked it :)

  • wher did you get the pen

  • @josaphat97 That's a Parker Jotter stainless steel fountain pen that I bought off eBay. I got the Parker piston converter separately many years back.

  • Thank you so much!

  • Interesting. I can see it being practical in the conditions described by fabrimedeiros9888, but it does seem slow otherwise.

I'll have to keep this method in mind.
