Trumpet Sonata by Kent Kennan

I also would like to know your opinion on which out of the two videos i have of this piece is a better performance/recording.

This sounded pretty good, my only complaint was that you seemed to be either rushing or dragging. In my eyes this sonata should be played like you've got a metronome clicking in your head the entire time. Rhythmic precision is a must, you can definitely play all the notes, just work on your pulse a little bit and this should sound pretty good

@jhtrumpetgeek Thanks. This was a while back... District MPA (almost a year ago), and at that time, as it's clear in this video, I was not comfortable with the tempo yet. So it definitely got better by the time I performed it for State MPA and became one of 7 musicians chosen to perform in the FSU summer music camp honors solo recital.

And honestly I haven't played it since because I feel like Kennan is one of those pieces that you can just get so tired of...

you sound a little bright what mouth piece are you using?

@Challenger77 Bright? Maybe it's the recording... I actually have a pretty dark sound. Though I do tend to get too bright on higher notes.

But I play on a warburton 3MD cup (which according to their chart is about equivalent to a 1 1/4 C bach and is a medium deep "bowl" shape cup that produces a rich, dark, symphonic sound) with a 8* backbore (medium large)

sounds pretty good. you're 32nd notes are too fast and don't jip that accented F# at the end of the line. That's an interesting horn you got there. It looks like it has a reverse lead pipe. what is it?

the 32nd notes are actually just right for the tempo the piece is.

Overall it's a lot crisper and I think musically you sound more confident

I love your interpretation of this, wonderful tone! This is my 10th grade nyssma piece for all state (New York). May I ask what grade you're in?because it's outstanding. I just can't survive that final high C!
