(Traditional arrangement by Eric Bibb)
The first time I remember hearing this song was on a LP by the late Bob Gibson, a fine banjo and 12-string guitar playing folksinger, popular in the late 1950's and early 60's.
From what I 've learned, this song was taught to a group of slaves by an english or scottish slave owner a few hundred years ago. I can see how this melody and these words would have resonated with those ancestors.

  • This song touches that depths in my soul I have lost and since have longed for.

  • Know this song, in my heart ... sad , sad, beautiful... Journey .

  • Download the audio from this track at speedyconversion doht cohm.

  • Less is more. Wonderful.

  • Best version ever .....does anyone know the tuning.... sounds like the low string is way down to Bb any links to tabs?

  • Entrancing. The gentleness, the lack of drama...makes for a deeply dramatic song, in the end!

  • Soul in the deepest sense of the word.
