This is summer of 03. I think these were the 4th or 5th passes with the newly built 509 big block (gotta love that idle). We did the first few passes in october 02 with the iron heads and small cam. We went 11.80s on motor and 10.60s on spray. The first run was made with the aluminum heads and the radical cam and no nitrous. Dad bumped the switch on the shifter by accident and caused a nitrous backfire while he staged. That blew the throttle plates right out of the carb. (VERY expensive fix) IF dad didnt make the mistake, he should've turned a 9.70. Be sure to watch the other videos too.

  • my dad bumped the nitrous switch on the shifter and it caused a backfire that pretty much destroyed the carburetor

  • uhh yea about there. anything over that will cause detonation. use good gas, like shell.

  • what is the compression ratio?

  • oh sweet. isn't 11.1 compression about as high as you can go on 93 octane?
