  • You don't know how grateful I am. I have this on VCR in Australia, someone in the States recorded it for me when I was young. I'm currently in Ireland, and I had a real desire to watch this because I hadn't done so in a while. So, so glad! Thank you!

  • @moonshotify

    DEFINITELY!

I was 14 when I first saw this. I could recite the whole thing word for word. Gordo Cooper was my hero.

This documentary is so well made that if you compare the Apollo 11 landing sequence of this documentary with the one in "From Earth to the Moon", you'll be blown away by how much more exciting, suspenseful, and downright cinematic this presentation was, and it used entirely stock footage and audio.

I wish people still wanted to do pure exploration.

  • A great documentary that 'From the Earth to the moon' missed a few details.

  • @DrTWG It's a southwestern accent, which is no surprise since Barry Corbin -- the actor playing Slayton -- was born and raised in Texas.

Slayton, who died in 1993, was from Wisconsin. He spoke in a midwestern accent, which is often hard to identify because it doesn't fit any one pattern.

  • One of the best docu's I've seen - to all the Yanks - what kind of accent is Slayton's?

  • @benniepieters - Oh, thank you very much, Bennie. Through all this video, Schirra speaks really fast, and he's the most difficult to understand. By the way, what did he mean with "where the hell is a no desk"? Thank you once again!

  • @cattaghia He says: "We arrived in this big auditorium in the Pentagon with about 70 guys. Two engineers and a shrink trying ot tell us how exciting it would be to get in a capsule on top of a rocket. And I said where the hell is a no desk?"

  • Please, English native-speakers everywhere, what does Wally Schirra says from 8:51 to 8:57 and then in the sentence in which he laughs?? I am able to understand the rest, but I am not sure if what he says is something like "where the hell is a no desk??".... Thanks!

  • @badbearduke Yes, I too, would like to see a DVD release and a Blu Ray. It's amazing!

  • THANK YOU for posting this! I own it on VHS, and no longer having a VHS tape player, I haven't seen this in years! It is in my mind, the best Doc. on the subject ever made! I only wish that Turner would put it out on DVD.
