This is a full size Bass fiddle made from common lumber parts. Most of it is made from lumber found at any home improvement center. The Bass can be built in about one week-end and the cost is about $100. This Bass will hold it's own in any Bluegrass or Country Western group or just for fun-time jamming.I bought a commercial Bass to see if I could learn how to play it but decided they are too fragile for me. So I did some internet research and designed my own. The one I built sounds as good as the one I bought so I sold the commercial one. Now I don't have to worry about the sound post tipping over, humidty, cracks or antyhing else that would require a luthier to repair. This Bass has all the standard parts including a sound post, Bass bar, and supports on the inside. Complete construction plans are available if interested, at:

Please note this is a video on the Homemade Bass fiddle and not my playing ability. I finished making the Bass but learning how to play it well is going to take a little more time. If you have ever thought about learning the Bass fiddle, this Bass might be the choice for you also.

  • The sound post in glued into position. It is positioned the distance equal to the diameter of the sound post behind the bridge under the G string. Not at all how the pros do it but it works for me and I'll guarantee you it will never fall down and it sounds fine to me!

  • Headstock and neck are one piece. Since the neck is flat on top it's not difficult to make.
